Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
1 cup sour cream
1 tbsp vanilla extract
2 cups unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
6 cups powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp milk
Orange food coloring
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (for face decoration)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two bundt pans.
Whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
Beat in the softened butter, eggs, milk, sour cream, and vanilla until smooth.
Divide the batter between the two bundt pans and bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool completely before removing from the pans.
Prepare the buttercream by beating butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until fluffy; tint orange with food coloring.
Place one bundt cake flat side down, frost the top, and place the second cake flat side down on top to form the pumpkin sphere.
Frost the entire exterior with the orange buttercream, smoothing it out.
Use melted chocolate chips to draw the jack-o’-lantern face on the front of the cake.
Notes
Ensure cakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent the butter in the buttercream from melting. You can use a bit of extra frosting to fill the center hole of the cake for more stability. Store in a cool, dry place.
