Description
A rich and aromatic Indian-style kofta curry featuring tender beef meatballs simmered in a spiced tomato-cream gravy. Infused with garam masala, cumin, and turmeric, this halal-friendly dish pairs perfectly with rice or naan.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 inch ginger, grated
1 cup plain yogurt
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 cup coconut milk (for non-dairy halal option)
2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
Salt to taste
Instructions
In a large bowl, mix ground beef, chopped onion, garlic, ginger, yogurt, turmeric, cumin, chili powder, garam masala, black pepper, and salt.
Form the mixture into 12 meatballs.
Heat oil in a heavy pot over medium heat. Brown meatballs in batches, then set aside.
In the same pot, sauté chopped onion until golden. Add garlic, ginger, and spices; cook for 2 minutes.
Stir in cooked tomatoes, simmer until thickened. Add coconut milk and bring to a gentle boil.
Return meatballs to the pot, cover, and simmer for 25 minutes.
Adjust seasoning and thicken with a bit of flour mixed in water if desired.
Notes
Use halal-certified beef for authenticity.
Replace coconut milk with thin gravied if preferred.
Store leftovers refrigerated for up to 3 days.
Optional: Add spinach or potatoes to the gravy for a heartier meal.
