Description
A delightful layered dessert combining a crunchy pretzel crust, a creamy filling, and a vibrant strawberry jello topping. Perfect for potlucks and family gatherings.
Ingredients
2 cups crushed pretzels
¾ cup melted butter
¼ cup granulated sugar (for crust)
8 ounces softened cream cheese
1 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
1 (8 ounce) container whipped topping, thawed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (6 ounce) package strawberry gelatin
2 cups boiling water
2 cups frozen strawberries, sliced
Instructions
1. Prepare the pretzel base: Combine the crushed pretzels with ¼ cup granulated sugar and ¾ cup melted butter. Press this mixture firmly into a 9×13 inch baking dish. Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden. Allow it to cool completely.
2. Create the creamy layer: In a large mixing bowl, beat 8 ounces of cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add 1 cup of granulated sugar. Mix well. Fold in 1 (8 ounce) container of thawed whipped topping and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Spread this creamy blend over the cooled pretzel crust.
3. Make the fruit topping: In a separate bowl, dissolve 1 (6 ounce) package of strawberry-flavored gelatin in 2 cups of boiling water. Stir until fully dissolved. Add 2 cups of chilled, sliced frozen strawberries to the gelatin mixture. Let it cool slightly until it begins to thicken.
4. Assemble and chill: Carefully pour the strawberry and gelatin mixture over the cream cheese layer. Ensure an even spread. Refrigerate the dessert for at least 4 hours, or until the gelatin is firm. This allows all the layers to set properly for optimal enjoyment.
