2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 large onions, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
2 tablespoons garam masala
1 teaspoon chili powder
400g canned crushed tomatoes
250ml beef broth
Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat and sear the beef chunks in batches until browned on all sides.
Transfer the seared beef to the slow cooker.
In the same pan, sauté the onions until translucent, then add the garlic and ginger, cooking for another minute.
Add the turmeric, cumin, garam masala, and chili powder to the onion mixture and stir for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Pour the onion and spice mixture into the slow cooker along with the crushed tomatoes and beef broth.
Stir well to combine all ingredients.
Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours until the beef is tender.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
Notes
Ensure you brown the beef in small batches to achieve the best flavor through the Maillard reaction. Serve with basmati rice or warm naan bread. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
