With minimal equipment required, this efficient recipe reduces cleanup and provides a balanced, comforting dinner in under forty minutes. It is a foolproof, reliable staple that balances savory, beefy notes with perfectly simmered starchy comfort.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
4 cups Yukon Gold potatoes, diced into 1/2 inch cubes
1 large onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup beef broth (halal/alcohol-free)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and black pepper to taste
Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
Stir in the minced garlic, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Add the diced potatoes to the skillet and stir to combine with the beef mixture.
Pour in the beef broth, then cover the skillet with a lid.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
Remove the lid and increase the heat slightly for 2-3 minutes to evaporate any excess liquid if desired.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can sprinkle a little shredded cheddar cheese over the top once finished. If using a different potato variety, ensure they are cut into consistent, small sizes for even cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
