Description
A rich, velvety Italian-American sauce with ground beef, tomato paste, and aromatic herbs. No alcohol or pork used. Balances umami, sweetness, and acidity for a restaurant-quality result.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio or halal sausage)
1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
6 oz tomato paste
15 oz plain canned tomato sauce
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp granulated sugar
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp salt
Fresh basil, for garnish
Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
Add chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Stir in tomato paste and cook for 2-3 minutes to deepen flavor. Add Worcestershire sauce and mix well.
Pour in tomato sauce, oregano, and basil. Simmer on low for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Adjust seasoning with salt and sugar. Toss sauce with cooked pasta. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
Notes
Use halal-certified beef if required.
Draining fat after browning ensures a cleaner flavor.
For extra richness, stir in 1/2 cup heavy cream during simmer (optional).
Store leftovers in airtight containers for up to 4 days, or freeze for 3 months.
Add grated Parmesan cheese if serving immediately.
