Description

This Asian-fusion Chicken Wonton Taco Bowl is a vibrant and quick weeknight dinner, perfect for busy schedules. It combines savory browned ground chicken with a crisp tri-colored slaw, topped with golden, crunchy wonton strips. The dish is brought together by a creamy, mildly spicy finishing sauce that provides a restaurant-quality flavor profile. It is a hearty, deconstructed dumpling experience that delivers excellent crunch and protein, all achievable in just 20 minutes with one skillet.

Ingredients

1 lb ground chicken
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon ginger, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon coconut sugar
4 cups tri-colored slaw mix (shredded cabbage and carrots)
1 cup wonton wrapper strips, fried or baked until crisp
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce (non-alcoholic)
1 tablespoon lime juice
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Green onions and cilantro for garnish

Instructions

Whisk together the mayonnaise, chili garlic sauce, and lime juice in a small bowl to create the spicy glaze, set aside.
Heat one tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add ground chicken to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula until browned and cooked through.
Stir in the soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and coconut sugar; cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce coats the meat evenly.
Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
Divide the shredded slaw into four serving bowls.
Top each slaw portion with a generous scoop of the savory ground chicken.
Scatter the crispy wonton strips over the top.
Drizzle the reserved spicy dressing over the bowls.
Garnish with fresh cilantro and sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

Ensure you use a non-alcoholic chili garlic sauce to comply with dietary guidelines. For extra crunch, toast your wonton strips in an air fryer at 350F for 3-5 minutes. You can add sliced edamame or water chestnuts to the slaw for extra texture. Store the sauce separately if prepping in advance to keep the wontons crisp.
