Description

Juicy 80/20 beef patties topped with sharp cheddar, crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, tangy pickles, and onions. Toasted buns add structure and balance in this easy, crowd-pleasing American staple perfect for backyard barbecues.

Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef (80/20)
4 Burger Buns
4 Cheddar Cheese Slices
4 Lettuce Leaves
4 Tomato Slices
812 Pickle Slices
4 Onion Slices
1 teaspoon Kosher Salt
1/2 teaspoon Coarse Black Pepper

Instructions

Preheat cast iron skillet or griddle to 450°F
Form 1/4 lb beef patties with thumb indentation
Season both sides of patties with salt and pepper
Cook patties 3 minutes per side or until medium-rare
Press a cheese slice on each patty during last minute of cooking
Toast buns 1 minute per side on skillet
Layer lettuce on bottom bun followed by patty, pickles, onion, and tomato
Top with second bun to complete

Notes

For leaner version, substitute 90/10 ground beef
Brioche buns add richness (ensure no lard in recipe)
Swiss cheese works well as a flavor alternative
Use mayo, ketchup, or mustard for added moisture if desired
Assembly order sequence protects bottom bun structure
Store cooked patties in airtight container for 3-4 days
