Description

Classic homemade shepherd’s pie with savory ground lamb or beef, tender vegetables, and creamy mashed potatoes baked until golden.


Ingredients

1 lb ground lamb or beef

2 tbsp olive oil

1 large onion, diced

2 carrots, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup frozen peas

1 cup beef broth

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp dried rosemary

1 tsp dried thyme

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

2 lbs potatoes

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup cheddar cheese


Instructions

1. Boil potatoes until tender and mash with butter, milk, salt, pepper, and cheese.

2. Cook onion and carrots in olive oil.

3. Add garlic and ground meat, cook until browned.

4. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire, herbs, broth and simmer.

5. Add peas.

6. Layer meat in baking dish.

7. Top with mashed potatoes.

8. Bake at 400°F for 25 minutes.

Notes

Use lamb for authentic shepherd’s pie.
