Description
A creamy, oven-baked comfort dish combining tender broccoli florets with a rich cheddar sauce, baked until golden. Inspired by Lily Taylor’s Dishfeast kitchen.
Ingredients
500 g fresh broccoli florets
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
250 ml milk
150 g grated cheddar cheese
1 pinch nutmeg (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and lightly grease a baking dish.
2. Blanch broccoli in salted water for 3 minutes, then cool under cold water.
3. Melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in flour, and gradually add milk to form a smooth sauce.
4. Stir in half the cheese, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
5. Place broccoli in the dish, pour sauce, sprinkle remaining cheese.
6. Bake for 25 minutes until golden and bubbling.
Notes
Lily Taylor suggests adding a spoonful of crème fraîche for extra creaminess.
Serve with roasted chicken or crusty bread.
Top with breadcrumbs mixed with cheese for a crispy crust.
