Description

Savory Irish soda bread made with cheddar cheese, chives, thyme, and buttermilk. A quick homemade bread baked in under an hour.


Ingredients

Scale

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

2 tbsp chopped chives

1 tbsp chopped thyme

1 3/4 cups buttermilk


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Mix flour, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.

3. Add cheddar cheese, chives, and thyme.

4. Pour buttermilk and stir until dough forms.

5. Turn dough onto floured surface and knead lightly.

6. Shape into a round loaf.

7. Cut cross on top of loaf.

8. Bake 35–40 minutes until golden brown.

9. Cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

Do not overmix dough to maintain tender texture.

Serve warm with butter or alongside soups.
